THE DESIGN THINKING CLASSROOM: DESIGN THINKING AS A PEDAGOGY

I’ve created five videos that explain my thoughts on some of the essential elements of this book. Rather than write about them, I want to speak them to you.

Launching the Lives of Children: This book is about preparing students to find their identity, their passions, and the opportunities that will launch their lives.

Why Design Thinking Matters: I believe that there can be a new identity for educators, one that extends past the simple representations of the past to a bold and vibrant future. I believe this is a moment that can give rise to the educator-designer, an educator who bases their practice on a human-centered design thinking approach.

Advancing the Educational Experience You Offer: How will your classroom experience grow and evolve to provide students with the knowledge, skills, and dispositions that will be required to negotiate a world in constant beta? There is much work to do to realize a new condition for learning and what the school experience will become. This effort extends to all members of the school community, but it can start with one teacher. Sometimes change begins in the simplest of ways and builds from there.

Life-long, Wide, and Deep Learning: How we connect the three dimensions of learning to the growth and development of children represents the good stuff—and it’s what makes the future of education so exciting.

Building Design Skills, Process Skills, and Building the Designer: I want to share an approach that you can use to get started, to help your kids build the skills they need to effectively engage through a design approach, and at the same time, build your understanding and confidence to make the shift to a design thinking classroom.
