You can do some simple things that are low cost that can create a more capable space that students find interesting, valuable and places they want to learn in. The set of videos show a way forward.
These videos were done a number of years ago but still resonate. The challenge: redesign an existing old-school classroom in two days with $1000.00. The three videos show the design team in action and how a new energized spaces was created. Anyone can use the process and techniques to reimagine what their space can look like. Note: before hacking your space, always get permission to do so!
Part 1: Describes the Discovery approach used by the design team to understand the landscape of the challenge. The video also shows the development of a point of view and design drivers (done in a solution session) that will become the framework for redesign.
Part 2: Prototyping ideas related to the point of view are shown as well as beginning to build out the new space. Pay attention to how they emptied the space and cleaned and painted. Doing the basics and simple things can greatly contribute to the overall design.
