Mason City Schools
Project Goal: Develop design drivers for the spatial design of a 7500 square foot learning commons and create a set of recommendations and strategies for the redesign.
Description: The school district wishes to rethinking how the current Learning Commons at Mason High School serves students and learning. The district is migrating to a personalized learning approach which suggests a new role for the space. The space has unlimited potential and is ready for a new, contemporary design.
What's Interesting? How can this space be re-crafted into a third place that supports student, faculty and community use? How could this space assume a new identity that is managed by students to serve students? How can this space compete with other community-based locations that students currently use after school? And, how can this become a community co-working space in the evening and the weekends?
