The School District of New Berlin, New Berlin WI

Project Goal:  Transition from a traditional library model to a learning commons model.

Description:  New Berlin Eisenhower and New Berlin West sought to create a new identity for their large libraries.  This transition was done in association with the creation of a "flex time" which enabled students to creativity use time within the school day to pursue their learning needs.  The transition of the library to a commons model enabled the creation of an accessible academic-social space to support choice of spaces to learn in.

What's Interesting?  What does a learning commons look like?  How does it act?  How does a digital space, or digital learning commons, support the physical location.  How can this space amplify the classroom space?  How is professional learning structured so that teachers understand how to use a space that offers a wide range of learning opportunities?
